What are microalgae?

Single-cell, eukaryotic microorganisms that can perform photosynthesis are called microalgae. Some of them produce complex, interesting substances that are already used and marketed in parts of the food and feed industry. The absorption of carbon dioxide makes them one of the renewable raw materials of the future. From a climatic point of view, microalgae are indispensable for humans.

What is Astaxanthin?

Astaxanthin is one of the strongest antioxidants in the world and is therefore mainly used in the area of nutritional supplements. In nature, astaxanthin gives salmon its typical orange-red color. The largest producer of the carotenoid is the relatively small microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis. It naturally enriches the astaxanthin in large quantities and therefore offers the most sustainable way of extracting the free radical scavenger.

Sea & Sun Organic is a 100% subsidiary of Sea & Sun Technology GmbH. The focus is on the production of astaxanthin from microalgae in state-of-the-art glass tube systems. We rely on our many years of experience with the organism. In our greenhouses, we are also building a spirulina production in open pond systems on an area of 5000 m².
Together with partners from various institutions, we are constantly developing our cultivation systems and researching new products made from microalgae.
